Friends of the Aiken Public Library

Cultural Tours

As a fund raiser, the Friends of the Library organizes cultural tours. These involve a visit to a location that ties in with a book of note. Examples would be a bus trip to Flat Rock, North Carolina to visit Connemara, the home of poet Carl Sandburg; a tour of Charleston and Boone Hall to see where Rhett Butler was from and to view a typical antebellum plantation like Tara in Gone With the Wind; a ride though the Francis Marion National Forest to Georgetown; or a visit to the confederate submarine CSS Hunley.

A suitable fee is charged to cover the cost of transportation and other expenses, with an extra amount identified as a donation to the library.
